WHO WE ARE
SPIN 503 was established in 2021 in Portland, Oregon. However, the station's roots date back much further to 2009. In late 2009, in Portland, Oregon, two new independent online hip-hop radio stations were started. Bodyrock Radio was started in 2009 by Shaydo, with a format of hip-hop and r&b. Bodyrock Radio is noteable as being the first black owned radio station in Portland (online or terrestrial). Also, in 2009 in Portland, Oregon, a new online radio station called 503 PDX Radio was started by Danny Ocean, with a format of hip-hop, r&b, and reggae. In 2011 the two radio stations merged to form a new bigger online radio station called SPIN 108.3 FM, with a format of hip-hop, r&b, reggae, and more. The station number 108.3 was meant as a joke, since the original SPIN was an online station and 107.9 is the last actual useable number on the FM dial. SPIN 108.3 folded in 2014 due to changing FCC laws that affected many online stations in a negative way.
